The fourth grade is an important year of growth. In this year, the students become more independent in their learning and more accountable for their actions. Crossing the courtyard to the upper elementary means that productive work choices are expected routinely and time management is practiced and evaluated on a daily basis.
There are enhanced roles and leadership opportunities on Student Council, in the Christmas and May Day programs, and at various assemblies and activities (for example, Jump Rope for Heart, and graduation). There are field trips to enhance learning and conditioning hikes in preparation for the Big Island trip, which begin in the ‘Aina Haina neighborhood and progress to Diamond Head Crater or to the Makapu’u lighthouse. Other field trips may include visits to Bishop Museum, 'Iolani Palace, the USS Arizona or the USS Missouri.
